First of all, HAPPY NEW YEAR!! ๐
I wish you all the best for 2026, especially health, love, happiness, and more cute stationery than you could ever use in a lifetime! ๐๐
Now, on with the show!
๐ Today’s Post
I received my 2026 planner months agoโฆ and until now, I hadnโt even opened it (except to take a few pictures for a previous post). ๐ ๐ A brand-new planner always brings a mix of excitement and mild panic โ especially when youโre trying a totally new layout.
After years of vertical layouts, I decided to switch to a dashboard layout. So here I am, sitting at my desk with my plannerโฆ feeling equal parts happy and nervous. โจ
But the new year isnโt waiting, so letโs dive in! ๐
๐ The Blank Planner Moment
As an author, Iโm not afraid of a blank pageโฆ but a blank planner page? ๐ฌ
For weeks, I thought, โIโll add that to my planner when I set it up.โ Now that itโs setup time, my mind went completely blank. (Note to self: write must-add ideas somewhere else first! ๐)
This is where the dashboard layout helps. Guided sections like Goals, Priorities, and Important Dates make it easy to ease into planning mode. ๐๏ธโจ
๐ฆ Cannonball!
To avoid overthinking, I start with the lowest-hanging fruit ๐:
- Since my planner is undated, I add the dates to each monthly spread
- I write the month’s names in colors I associate with them: January = gray-blue ๐, February = pink ๐ธ, March = lavender ๐, etc.
- And I fill in fixed events like birthdays, bills, and appointments
By then, my planner is looking a little less intimidating and a little more mine. ๐

๐ฏ Goal!
Next, I tackle the Goal page! ๐ฏ I fill in the Priorities and Take Note sections with things I want to remember and focus on, like health, connection, or new rituals. Anything that will make me look back and think, โNow THAT was a good month!โ โจ๐
Now that my priorities are clear, I finally feel ready to think about goals. Knowing what I want to focus on throughout the month helps me set measurable goals. ๐
To keep things flexible, I use the Good / Better / Best system (borrowed from author Sarra Cannon). It gives me room to adapt and a way to โrateโ my month without pressure. ๐
For example, if health is a January priority and weight loss is one of my goals, it might look like this: Lose 5 / 10 / 15 lbs in January. โ๏ธ
It gives me something to aim for, without turning the whole month into a pass-or-fail situation. โ ๐ช

๐ New Layout
Now for my first ever dashboard weekly spread! ๐ฅฐ๐
Unlike vertical layouts, I donโt overstuff tasks anymore. Fixed events go in the daily boxes on the right-hand page, and weekly tasks go in the To-Do / Priorities list on the left. ๐๏ธ๐๏ธ
I can add little reminders in Important and leave the Looking Ahead section blank for now. Iโll fill it in as the week progresses with future tasks or more notes. โฉ
As for the Notes section, since itโs gridded, itโs perfect for a mini weekly habit tracker! ๐โจ The impatient child in me doesnโt like monthly or yearly trackers ๐ , which usually end up abandoned halfwayโฆ but a weekly tracker? Totally doable! ๐ฏ

๐ Decoration
Of course, no spread would be complete without some decoration! โจ
This is honestly my favorite part. I love digging through my sticker and washi tape collection, finding the perfect mood for the week, and filling in the blanks with cute or cheerful details. ๐
For me, decoration isnโt extra โ itโs what makes planning fun and something I actually look forward to coming back to every day. ๐๐

๐ญ Final Thoughts
This is just the beginning of my 2026 planning journey, and I know things will shift as the year unfolds. And thatโs okay. ๐ฑ
If youโre starting a new planner this month too, Iโd love to know: Are you setting everything up at onceโฆ or easing into it slowly?
However youโre starting, I hope your planner brings you little sparks of happiness every time you open it this year. โจ๐๐
