February turns everything pink and heart-shaped πand Valentineβs Day can feel inescapable.
But it doesnβt have to be about romance, big gestures, or productivity.
π§ββοΈ I recently started doing yoga again, and during the first class, the teacher told us that the original goal of yoga wasnβt to reduce stress or improve flexibility (though those are great!), but to help you connect with who you truly are beneath all the layers of expectations, reasoning, and society.
To connect with the child inside you πΆπ.
This year, Iβm treating Valentineβs Day as a small personal ritual with stationery βοΈπ to help me reach that child again. No expectations, no goals. Just pens and paper, and a few moments for myself, just like when I was a kid and creating things felt magical. β¨
If you love stationery, this can be your version of Valentineβs Day too. π Read on if you wish to join me!
β¨ A Stationery Valentineβs Date With Yourself
You donβt need anything special for this. Just the supplies you already own and enjoy, and a bit of quiet time.
π―οΈ Step 1: Set the Scene
Make yourself comfortable however you like. You can:
- Put on music that relaxes you πΆ
- Wear comfy clothes (pyjamas count!) π
- Light a candle, a cute lamp, or pull open the curtains and let the sunshine in βοΈ
- Make yourself a drinkβtea, coffee, hot chocolate, or even a glass of wine π·
You can even do this in a warm bath with loads of scented bubbles if you got the right setup for it! π
Now for the most important part: gather your journal or planner π, your favorite pens βοΈ, stickers and washis, and anything that inspires you. β¨
Leave timers and distractions at the doorβthereβs no βI should be doing something usefulβ here. This time is just for you. π
π Step 2: Make a Valentine Page
Open your journal or planner and decorate a page however you like. The page doesnβt need to be perfectβit just needs to exist.
So, maybe you:
- Doodle lots of hearts and ribbons π
- Stick cute stickers of animals holding hearts π°
- Cover the page with lovely washi tape π
- Or skip hearts entirely and add something you loveβacademia ephemera, pretty spring flowers, anything! πΈ
Whatever you choose, this page is for you only.
π Step 3: Write Yourself a Small Love Letter
This is my favorite part.
Write a few lines to yourself, the way you would to a friend. Here are some ideas to get you started:
- βDear me, thank you forβ¦β ποΈ
- βIβm proud of you forβ¦β β¨
- βI promise to be kinder whenβ¦β π
You can use one of the prompts, all of them, or make up your own! You can write it in the center of the page in big letters, or discreetly in the margins. There’s no rule!
And you don’t have to write a full page either. Even a sentence or two is enough.
And thatβs it! Ritual completed. π You can spend ten minutes on it, or long enough that you forget to make dinnerβeither is totally fine. π
π· A Small Valentineβs Wish
Valentineβs Day can be loud, pricey, and commercial. π
But it can also be quiet, personal, and made of a little creativity. βοΈπ
Whether you spend five minutes or an hour with your stationery, I truly hope you treat yourself with the same kindness youβd offer someone you care about. πΈ Because we can all use a bit of loveβand a little break from the rush.
Happy Valentineβs Day π
β¨ BONUS: Love Notes To Yourself
You can copy one or many of these into your Valentine page if you want:
- βI am allowed to rest without earning it.β π
- βMy creativity doesnβt need to be productive.β π¨
- βI deserve pretty stickers on ordinary days.β π
- βItβs okay to take my time and enjoy the little things.β β³
- βI am allowed to make mistakes and learn from them.β ποΈ
- βSmall wins matter too!β π
- βItβs okay to say no and take care of myself.β πΈ
- βI am enough just as I am.β π
- βI am proud of the little steps I take every day.β π±
