First of all, HAPPY NEW YEAR!! π
I wish you all the best for 2026, especially health, love, happiness, and more cute stationery than you could ever use in a lifetime! ππ
Now, on with the show!
π Today’s Post
I received my 2026 planner months agoβ¦ and until now, I hadnβt even opened it (except to take a few pictures for a previous post). π π A brand-new planner always brings a mix of excitement and mild panic β especially when youβre trying a totally new layout.
After years of vertical layouts, I decided to switch to a dashboard layout. So here I am, sitting at my desk with my plannerβ¦ feeling equal parts happy and nervous. β¨
But the new year isnβt waiting, so letβs dive in! π
π The Blank Planner Moment
As an author, Iβm not afraid of a blank pageβ¦ but a blank planner page? π¬
For weeks, I thought, βIβll add that to my planner when I set it up.β Now that itβs setup time, my mind went completely blank. (Note to self: write must-add ideas somewhere else first! π)
This is where the dashboard layout helps. Guided sections like Goals, Priorities, and Important Dates make it easy to ease into planning mode. ποΈβ¨
π¦ Cannonball!
To avoid overthinking, I start with the lowest-hanging fruit π:
- Since my planner is undated, I add the dates to each monthly spread
- I write the month’s names in colors I associate with them: January = gray-blue π, February = pink πΈ, March = lavender π, etc.
- And I fill in fixed events like birthdays, bills, and appointments
By then, my planner is looking a little less intimidating and a little more mine. π

π― Goal!
Next, I tackle the Goal page! π― I fill in the Priorities and Take Note sections with things I want to remember and focus on, like health, connection, or new rituals. Anything that will make me look back and think, βNow THAT was a good month!β β¨π
Now that my priorities are clear, I finally feel ready to think about goals. Knowing what I want to focus on throughout the month helps me set measurable goals. π
To keep things flexible, I use the Good / Better / Best system (borrowed from author Sarra Cannon). It gives me room to adapt and a way to βrateβ my month without pressure. π
For example, if health is a January priority and weight loss is one of my goals, it might look like this: Lose 5 / 10 / 15 lbs in January. βοΈ
It gives me something to aim for, without turning the whole month into a pass-or-fail situation. β πͺ

π New Layout
Now for my first ever dashboard weekly spread! π₯°π
Unlike vertical layouts, I donβt overstuff tasks anymore. Fixed events go in the daily boxes on the right-hand page, and weekly tasks go in the To-Do / Priorities list on the left. ποΈποΈ
I can add little reminders in Important and leave the Looking Ahead section blank for now. Iβll fill it in as the week progresses with future tasks or more notes. β©
As for the Notes section, since itβs gridded, itβs perfect for a mini weekly habit tracker! πβ¨ The impatient child in me doesnβt like monthly or yearly trackers π , which usually end up abandoned halfwayβ¦ but a weekly tracker? Totally doable! π―

π Decoration
Of course, no spread would be complete without some decoration! β¨
This is honestly my favorite part. I love digging through my sticker and washi tape collection, finding the perfect mood for the week, and filling in the blanks with cute or cheerful details. π
For me, decoration isnβt extra β itβs what makes planning fun and something I actually look forward to coming back to every day. ππ

π Final Thoughts
This is just the beginning of my 2026 planning journey, and I know things will shift as the year unfolds. And thatβs okay. π±
If youβre starting a new planner this month too, Iβd love to know: Are you setting everything up at onceβ¦ or easing into it slowly?
However youβre starting, I hope your planner brings you little sparks of happiness every time you open it this year. β¨ππ
